I can't believe that guy is selling his mailbox. (check the photo; it's still in the ground!) Maybe if he sells the mailbox, they can't deliver the auction notice.

Some of these have got to be scavengers, you think?

Glad you liked that CL ad Max

I've seen people selling their pavers out the backyard, faceplates, even the fences.

The place next door to me is going into foreclosure. No notice yet and it's been vacant since Sept. Someone came by during the day in a beat up mini van and out poured a late middle aged woman african american woman with 7 "kids". My roomate who works from home heard the noise next door and spoke with her. She told my roommate that she just received custody of all her grandkids and needs a bigger place and that the owners told her to check it out. Apparently by checking it up, they took it to mean kicking in the garage door. We were too nosy so they left and never came back. They were hoping the neighboring homes were vacant also so squatting would be easy.

However the owners do come back from time to time but only to continue striping the house. They've pulled up all the granite and stone and are now digging up the trees one by one and selling them on CL. They were going to buy another house just before they let this one go but the lenders have caught on that trick. The push to strip the house is so that they can take as much money as they can with them back to the Philipines.

It's very surreal and unsettling to watch all this happening close up.

It totally makes sense for people to do this, especially before the auction date. The banks have been offering a couple of grand to people if they leave the place undamaged, but if you can sell what you can before the 60-day NOD, you might get the cash and the salvage.

If it were me, I'd stay right up until the notice to vacate. You save way more on rent than what you'd make selling a microwave on CL.

Wait until they get hungry. It will be ok for them to come in your house for food...
