Food Stamp Recipients
Some minor hay was made yesterday about the increasing number of people requesting food stamps in the United States, so I thought I'd look at the Sacramento and California numbers:
This series runs from July 1999 through January 2009. In January, 9.8% of all Sacramento County residents were on food stamps, which roughly mirrors the national numbers, and is a 10-year high. The recent increase in recipient growth began one year before the onset of the current recession, and appears to be accelerating.
Tough times all around.

I can't help but notice the 2nd chart. It seems like regardless of who's in office spending and food stamp usage/applications were already going upwards anyway.
