Food Stamp Data: June, July, August 2009

The last three months of data ending August 2009 showed a continued increase in the number of food stamp recipients in both Sacramento County and California as a whole. 10.8% or nearly one in nine county residents are receiving food assistance. This is at least a 10-year high:

According to the Associated Press, the 20% year-over-year increase in California mirrored the increase in the rest of the country. There are now over 36 million people in the US on food stamps; 2.8 million in California.

When I was a kid there was a time when my parents were in a situation that they received food stamps and some type of gov't food (cheese and milk).

This short period had a lasting affect on me and my siblings, especially those that can remember. We laugh about it today but it is still there in the background, it was tough and we don't want to go back, but we survived. For better or worse, probably much better.
